6-8. Roller Pump is a roller skating class for junior high girls in grades 6-8, introducing them to the world of roller derby.
**What is Roller Derby?**
Roller derby is an alternative contact sport designed specifically for girls. It has been a lifeline for many young females who may not be interested in traditional sports.
- The rules of roller derby
- Basic roller skating techniques
- Footwork exercises
- Shadow blocking
- Blocking with pads
**Equipment Needed:**
Participants will need the following gear for the class:
- Quad skates
- Helmet
- Wrist guards
- Elbow pads
- Knee pads
- Mouthguard
If a skater needs help with acquiring gear, we can always help and point them in the right direction.
**Instructor:**
The class will be led by Brenda Holley, a Friendswood resident and the founder of South Side Roller Derby and the Roller Sports Club. With over 20 years of experience in the Friendswood area, Brenda has been dedicated to teaching women and girls how to roller skate while promoting female sports and empowerment on skates.
